If you have absolutely no assets, a will can still be helpful to designate whether you want to be buried or you want to be cremated.
You can also use a will to determine who your children are.
And you can use a will to say who's got the authority to take care of the body, take care of your debts, take care of your apartment, take care of any of the loose ends left after you die.
